What is it?
Radiography is an imaging technique that makes use of X-rays which is used for visualising large areas of the body.
It makes it possible to study the bones of the skeleton and the joints, lungs, abdomen and breasts in order to assist the physician in his diagnostic workup.
Preparation
You must bring along the following for your investigation:
- Your prescription
- Your past radiological investigation reports of the concerned region of the body, if available
- The contact details of your insurance company
Procedure
It is a very quick (some seconds for each radiograph) and non-invasive investigation.
In case of painful pathology (fracture, etc), we are at your service and we offer solutions that are adapted to your needs..
After you have worn a robe, we will position you – sitting, standing or lying down – in line with the prescriptions of your doctor.
A technician will capture the image(s) while asking you not to move during the duration of the capture, which is essential for good quality images.
Radiation
No risk has been demonstrated at the present time, considering the low doses used and the precautions taken by the technician to limit the part of the body that is exposed to radiation during each investigation.
On average, an ordinary radiograph exposes you to the same quantity of X-rays as you would receive naturally from the sun during a 4-hour flight. However, at the Versoix Imaging Centre, the principle of justification and precaution is always put into consideration.
A radiographic examination does not require any special preparation.
Pregnancy is a relative contraindication to radiography, depending on the region to be examined; a discussion must take place between the treating physician, radiologist and patient in order to assess the risk-benefit ratio.
Results
As from the following day, the diagnosis will be transmitted to the prescribing physician, who will receive a detailed report by mail, fax or telephone.
We will give you an internet access which makes it possible for you to visualize your images and read the medical report.
In future, you will also be able to request for the report as well as the images for up to 10 years after your investigation.
Our Machines
We are equipped with a latest generation machine: PHILIPS COMBI-DIAGNOST R90
This 100% digital technology has a flat panel detector which displays radiographs instantly via WiFi connection and allows us to reduce the doses of radiation for both the patient and the care provider.
The system combines two techniques: fluoroscopy and radiography, which makes it possible to perform all the investigations at the Versoix Imaging Centre with efficiency, safety and patient comfort.
Investigations performed
The team of the Versoix Imaging Centre performs radiography on all parts of the body.
